Flibe Energy has received an important patent for its supercritical carbon dioxide (sCO₂) power conversion system.

The power conversion system is as crucial to a power plant as the energy source itself, with large impact on cost-effectiveness. Proper coupling of the power conversion system and the reactor is vital in our mission to produce low-cost electricity, and as such, Flibe Energy has dedicated significant effort to its development and integration.

The sCO₂ Brayton cycle is a fantastic pairing for our molten-salt, liquid-fueled nuclear core. Our patented cycle allows for increased efficiency over the recompression Brayton cycle, at the same cycle parameters, while also offering increased black-start capability. This patent reflects the operational performance that can be achieved through innovation and iteration on the entire power generation system, and these improvements promise benefits to non-nuclear applications as well.

U.S. Patent No. 12,540,559 B2, “sCO₂ Power Conversion System,” was issued February 3, 2026.
