Flibe Energy had the privilege of attending Governor Tate Reeves’ “Power Play” energy summit in Jackson, Mississippi on May 1st. This strategic gathering brought together key stakeholders from utilities, pipeline operators, refineries, and advanced nuclear developers to discuss Mississippi’s energy future.

As one of just two advanced reactor companies invited to participate, Kirk Sorensen had an opportunity to address the summit, highlighting Flibe’s ongoing work at the historic Yellow Creek site in Tishomingo County. Since 2019, we’ve invested resources in this former TVA nuclear site, positioning it as a potential cornerstone of Mississippi’s clean energy transition. During the presentation to Governor Reeves and assembled industry leaders, Sorensen emphasized how rising uranium costs threaten conventional nuclear economics, while our thorium-based Lithium Fluoride Thorium Reactor (LFTR) technology offers a promising alternative with significantly lower fuel and construction expenses.

The Governor’s statement that “the future is going to be nuclear” signals strong state-level support for advanced nuclear development. This aligns perfectly with our vision for Mississippi’s energy landscape, where our Yellow Creek operations could play a critical role in regional energy security.

Our ongoing engagement with Mississippi officials continues to build momentum. Following our October presentation to the Public Service Commission and the Commission chair’s March visit to the Yellow Creek facility, this summit represents another significant step in our collaborative relationship with state leadership.

We are grateful for Governor Reeves’ invitation and his proactive approach to energy policy. Flibe Energy remains committed to working alongside Mississippi stakeholders to advance thorium energy as a safe, affordable, and sustainable power solution for the region.
